Five Easy DIY Projects You Do with String, Ribbon and Paper!

I am a craft and art supply hoarder. I can’t help it. I have two entire closets and two bins in the basement of items that I think I will need someday. Because what happens when I need something and don’t have it? I kick myself for not having bought it off the clearance rack. One of the things that you can never have enough of is various strings, ribbons and yarn types. See five great examples of what you can do inexpensively with string!

Late Night Treat | Take Home Favor : Wedding Cookies

For our wedding day favor, instead of a keepsake, we gave away bags of freshly baked cookies tied to cartons of milk. Our guests absolutely gushed about it after all the dancing. It was a favor that was much appreciated and totally hit the spot. I’ve gathered up some of my favorite takes on baked goodies in different themes. Enjoy!

The look of homemade-ness is totally irresistible although I’m more of a regular milk kinda gal!

The Clutch : Looks from the Golden Globes

Sunday night’s Golden Globes proved to be another head-turning fashion moment. From Jessica Alba’s ultra feminine salmon-pink Christian Dior to Helen Mirren’s edgy Badgley Mischka gown, I was loving every second of it. And while everyone was striking their poses, it was hard to miss the clutches in their hands.

The clutch is a perfect companion for your wedding day of any soirée. It’s practical (for your lipgloss, a small compact, some mints) and small enough that your MOH won’t feel burdened with holding it for you! Can you name that clutch below?

1. Rachel Weisz had the best accessory all evening. Her clutch wasn’t shabby either!

2. Jennifer Lopez’s lacy Zuhair Murad number was so over the top, a simple metallic clutch made sense.

3. Golden Globe host Amy Poehler struck the right note with a chic, angular clutch.

4. With one of my favorite looks of the evening, Emily Blunt complemented gold lace with sparkle.

5. Megan Fox’s velvety red clutch looked striking against her off white gown.

6. Glitter was the way to go with Jennifer Lawrence’s regal red frock.

7. Ultra feminine Jessica Alba went with a feathery number to go with her salmon pink Dior.

8. Golden Globe cohost Tina Fey looked gorgeous with a tapered look at matching black and white clutch.

9. The most accessorized and styled I’ve seen Jodie Foster in years, her sleek clutch matched her beaded gown perfectly.

Wedding Tip: How To Choose a Florist that Works for You

Many of you will want to find a florist that fits your budget. But what factors go beyond that when you’re deciding on how to choose the right florist for you?

Know what you want. First and foremost, talk to your partner about what’s important to you. Will you be using the same florist for all the boutonnieres and corsages? Will there be any extras tossed in like little bud vases at the entry table? Draw up a list of wants and then see where the florist can meet you in terms of expectations within your budget.

Is that in season? When I was planning my wedding in June, I didn’t realize that many peonies would have already bloomed or would be a premium that late in the season (they generally bloom in late May or early June but we had a warm spring that had peonies wilting by then). Talk to your florist in advance about not only colors but specific blooms you may have in mind. There are greenhouses that can grow your variety any time of year and your florist should be able to give you a ballpark idea on pricing.

What’s your style? It’s important to be able to describe what kind of style you’re going for. Even though these are both purple bouquets, there’s a big difference between them. Ask the florist if they can do either and specifically how they’ll go above and beyond for your bouquets and arrangements.

Rolling out the red carpet. Like any vendor you’re going to work with, the florist should be able to show you samples of their previous work. If they can’t take the time to give you an initial consultation, chances are they’re not going to be very patient throughout the process. It doesn’t matter how highly they come recommended or if they’re the “must-have” florists in town. If they’re not taking care of you now, they won’t be reliable down the line.

2013 Spring Bridesmaid Dress Trends

There’s still snow on the ground and it’s cold outside (at least where I’m sitting) but wedding season will be here before you know it. If you’re a bride, bridesmaid or MOH, you have dresses on the brain. For Spring 2013 the runway was awash with classic looks adorned with new details. Here are some of the best and most wearable trends.

Peplum accentuates the figure and when done right, it looks sophisticated and not too cute-sy.

The classic waistline is back. Empire waists and low hipslung looks are taking a back seat to the mid-belted look, right where we remember it used to be.

It’s not quite white but it’s very close. Light neutrals are making a big presence on the aisle and brides don’t seem to mind. This blush number is statuesque with its long hemline.

Laid back looks are popping up during day time weddings and even a few night time soirées. Give your gals the option of a shiny jersey like this look and they’ll be dancing all night.

Ball gown, anyone? We’re not talking the stiff, ankle skimming dresses of the ’80s. These are feminine and soft looks for your ladies and they’ll look regal standing next to you.

Glimpse Blake Lively and Ryan Reynold’s Wedding Photos with Glimpse of Marchesa Dress

They got married months ago but we’re just now seeing glimpses of the nuptials between newlyweds Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds. This was my prediction months ago.

blake-lively-ryan-reynolds-wedding-inlineblake-lively-ryan-reynolds-wedding-desserts-inlineQuite down home and delightful, don’t you think? There were definitely lots of rose and gold details so I wasn’t far off the mark about that! I can’t wait to see more.

What Beauty Moves *Not* to do Before Your Wedding Day

It’s tempting to try out a new hair color or do something extra special to look your best to walk down the aisle. But I’ve heard enough tanning nightmare stories to know better. Here’s a great list of 11 things not to do before the big day via Brides.
